Most memorable playing moment …
After a 25-year break from amateur trumpet playing, I was a very late comer to brass banding – so I’m still in the process of forming great band memories!
However, my most memorable moment as a trumpeter would probably be playing Richard Strauss’ Don Quixote in St. John’s Smith Square under the baton of a young Simon Rattle.
Proudest banding moment …
Playing the soprano solo Demelza without collapsing.
Previous bands …
Vintage Brass
Ringwood & Burley Band
Favourite piece …
Leonard Ballantine’s gorgeous arrangement of Shenandoah, entitled Mid All The Traffic – lovely soprano descants.
Musical ambition …
To write a concert piece for a really good band!
